Folsom IT Company Receives Top Honors At 2006 Dottie Awards
FOLSOM, Calif. (March XX, 2006) - Folsom-based First Source Consulting was recently honored with two prestigious Dottie awards for developing an innovative Web site (www.sackomen.org) for the Sacramento Valley Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. In fact, the local company was recognized with a "Dottie Award" in the "Best Site in the Nonprofit, Clubs and Associations" category and also earned the highly-coveted "Top Dot" award in the "Best Site Overall" category. The 9th Annual Dottie Awards ceremony was held on March 10, 2006 at the Towe Auto Museum.
Designed to honor the best Web sites in Northern California, the Dottie Awards acknowledge the accomplishments and creativity of Northern California businesses, governmental agencies and organizations that provide information and resources online and through the Internet. The award-winning Web site design was created for the Sacramento Valley Affiliate of The Komen Foundation, which consists of a national network of more than 75,000 dedicated volunteers, making the foundation the most progressive grassroots organization in breast cancer awareness today.
Priding themselves on their belief that every organization deserves high-quality IT services - ranging from Web site design and development to ongoing IT maintenance and support - First Source Consulting worked closely with the affiliate to produce a site that educates visitors about breast cancer, volunteering, event registration, cancer awareness, and much more.
"We are extremely proud that our expertise could support and extend such a worthy cause that impacts the lives of so many local women and their families," said James Brooks, co-owner, of First Source Consulting. "By tapping into our talented staff, we hope our creative efforts in Web design only serve to increase the effectiveness of and community support for the affiliate and its mission."

The Client: The Komen Foundation was founded in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister Susan G. Komen, who died of breast cancer at the age of 36. The Sacramento Valley Affiliate is one of 114 affiliates of the Komen Foundation based in Dallas, Texas.
The Project: The Sacramento Valley Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation desired a Web Site that spoke of their commitment to breast health and cancer research. First Source Consulting worked closely with the Affiliate during the planning stage of the project, designing Information Architecture and User Interfaces around the expected content of the new site. Then, through a series of iterative designs, First Source Consulting captured a look and feel that spoke to a large audience, portrayed the Komen brand in a more professional manner, and presented the content of the new site in a user-friendly manner.
Development of the site included content management solutions (allowing the Affiliate to control content through the use of simple, easy to use, web-based administration screens), integration of discussion forums, list serves, online donations and a materials request form. In addition, users can now sort through a dynamic list of upcoming events by date, title and category, making it easier for site visitors to find events in which they want to volunteer, attend or participate. All of these features were built with the goals of the Web Site in mind: increased awareness of the Affiliate, education, and fundraising.
Update: First Source Consulting was recently honored with two prestigious Dottie awards for the innovative www.sackomen.org web site: Best Site in Non-profits, Clubs and Associations; and the coveted Top Dot (Best Overall) in all categories. Learn more by viewing the press release.
